Who We Are
Helping Hands, Orillia is a community support service organization that provides essential programs to seniors and adults with physical disabilities, helping them maintain independence and quality of life in the community.
Our Volunteer Transportation Program is built on the generosity, compassion, and commitment of community volunteers who play a vital role in connecting individuals to the services, supports, and opportunities they need. Rooted in our Shared Purpose of Making Independence Possible - Together, our transportation volunteers are an extension of our care team—offering not only rides, but reassurance, dignity, and meaningful human connection.
What We Do
Our Volunteer Transportation Program provides safe, reliable, and accessible transportation services to residents in the Orillia and surrounding Couchiching area who may otherwise face barriers to getting where they need to go.
Through the support of dedicated volunteers, we:
- Help clients access essential medical appointments, ensuring continuity of care and support for their health needs
- Support day-to-day independence by assisting with transportation to groceries, banking, and other personal errands
- Promote social connection and well-being by enabling access to community activities, programs, and social outings
- Provide both local and longer-distance transportation options, responding to a range of client needs including specialized or out-of-town appointments
Our transportation volunteers use Helping Hands fleet vehicles and are supported through structured onboarding, safety protocols, and ongoing coordination to ensure a consistent, high-quality experience for every client.
At its core, our program is about more than transportation—it is about removing barriers, fostering independence, and ensuring no one in our community feels isolated due to a lack of access.
